Get ready because the new year, new you bullshit is coming right at you. The end of the year is coming and it’s coming fast! Not only is it a new year, it’s a new decade. The “roaring” twenties are almost here! This time of year can drown you in nostalgia and pressure that you’re not doing enough to crush your goals. It’s overwhelming but to stay stuck under that wet blanket of misery is a choice. You only have two choices; stay under the wet blanket or rip that sucker off and become the irresistible woman you’re meant to be.
I’ve been feeling the warm wave of nostalgia and pressure right on top of me. It feels like I could drown in it but ain’t nobody got time for that. I’ve been reflecting back (a lot) on the past ten years of my life and thinking ahead towards the next ten. When one chapter closes, it makes me highly emotional, nostalgic, and a little paralyzed if we’re being honest here.
This paralyzing fear of change can be enough to take me down for the count…if I let it. For me, even happy memories can feel really hard to reflect on because it makes me miss those times. The painful memories are hard because um, the obvious. Then, I feel this intense pressure that I’m not good enough or not doing enough because I didn’t crush all of my goals this year. PLUS, I feel pressure to hit the ground running in the new year to crush the goals I haven’t set yet.
Just me?
Geesh. I hope not.
I can’t allow myself to stay stuck in the fear of not wanting to reflect or look ahead. Staying in that place is like laying under a wet blanket of misery but yet it’s comfortable and familiar.
The way that I see it, you only have two options.
- Stay under your wet blanket of misery, doing what you’ve always done. Not feeling happy with your results and where you are in your life while daydreaming about who you know you could be.
- Rip the wet blanket off and get comfortable being uncomfortable while you try new things…while you take imperfect action to become the woman you know damn well you deserve to be.
So, I want you to ask yourself what you did over the past ten years. What was good? What was magical? What sucked ass? What hurt? What felt like shit? What do you need to stop doing? What do you need to stop tolerating?
I know that’s hard because not everything in the past is magical, happy, or comfortable to reflect on. Guess what? It’s not supposed to be! Life is a crazy, chaotic mix of happiness and sadness.
How do you want to feel during the next ten years? The bad stuff can still happen that is out of your control. Either way, you either step into your power or lay under the wet blanket.
Which is it?
I know how hard it is to stand up and take action when you’re miserable in your own skin. When you daydream of cutting your fat rolls off with scissors. When you feel like a foreigner in your own body. BUT, you have to start exactly where you are…even when you’d rather curl up in a ball and hide away from the world. You deserve better than that. You’re capable of more.
When you look at who you are today and who you want to become, what is the gap? There will be a gap. You can’t become who you want to be doing the things that got you where you are now.

- I will not self-sabotage the goals that I want for myself.
- I will think, speak, and act with conviction and unbreakable confidence.
- I will take imperfect action even when I’m scared.
- I will be fiercely self-aware about my feelings, my thoughts, and my actions.
- I will give myself permission to take a break and do something just for me.
- I will stay present and in the moment with myself and others.
- I will take pride in my appearance and practice self-care.
