I’ve always loved fashion. I admit, I don’t run around the house in a dress on most days even though I work from home. However, it’s important to me, to look put together when I have meetings or leave the house for any reason. I refuse to let my new journey of motherhood turn me into a frumpy mess. I totally get that some days are tough but looking and feeling irresistible is important to MY mental health and wellbeing.

It’s hard enough to find clothes when you are on the border of straight and plus size. It’s difficult finding clothes that fit when you’re curvy and short. Just add being pregnant to the mix and it’s straight up complicated!

Are you plus size AND pregnant- Then you need to read these tips for an irresistible pregnancy from Irresistible Icing!

I must admit that the maternity clothes these days are much better than even a few years ago. Just because I’m pregnant doesn’t mean I want to look like a sack of potatoes!

One of my favorite places to find maternity clothes is Pink Blush Maternity online. Their clothes fit great, are stylish, and affordable. Most importantly, they are comfortable and grow with you!

Pink Blush has straight sizes and plus size maternity sizes. In case you’re wondering about size, I ordered an XL in the “straight” size (for all looks in this post) and they fit perfectly. Prior to getting pregnant, I was in between a size 12/14 depending upon the cut of the material.

I purchased my first maxi dress from Pink Blush that I used for my gender reveal photos. The best part is that the material is stretchy so it will last throughout the entire pregnancy.

I liked the dress so much that I reached out to Pink Blush and they gifted me this Coral Damask Bottom Maternity Maxi Dress.

They have casual outfits and outfits for a night out on the town. When I needed a red carpet dress for BlogPaws, I purchased this black lace midi dress.

A few other shops that I like for maternity clothes are:

  • Target – They carry my favorite maternity jeans with a high tummy panel.
  • Motherhood for Maternity – They can be a little overpriced but still have cute clothes and often have sales and coupons.
  • Macy’s – Most of what they carry is from the Motherhood for Maternity line. I really like the Jessica Simpson line.

Maternity Fashion Tips

  • Start with a solid foundation. A well fitting bra with underwire is a must. Your boobs will grow so make sure to buy bras along the way to fit your growing bust. My favorite bras before pregnancy and during are from Frederick’s of Hollywood.
  • How do you hold it all in comfortably? When wearing dresses and skirts, I definitely recommend a pair of maternity spanx. This gives you plenty of support while not compressing the baby bump. You want to show that off without squishing the baby!
  • I hate to even write this one. Find a few pairs of cute sandals or flats. My high heels don’t even fit right now because of the swelling in my feet. Not only that, your feet do get bigger with pregnancy because all of the weight gain and swelling goes directly to the bottom, aka your feet.
  • Find a few basic staples that you can swap out with different pieces of your wardrobe.
  • It’s all about accessories! I love putting on a statement necklace or a pretty bracelet especially when I don’t feel so pretty considering all of my “normal” clothes don’t fit right now.
  • Do your hair and makeup! This does wonders for your self-esteem. Plus, it can make even the most plain outfit look put together.

My Tips for an Irresistible Pregnancy

Here are a few of my tips but I highly recommend reading my post, Dear Pregnant Fat Girl to  learn how to embrace your pregnant body.

  • Embrace the bump. I get that this isn’t always easy when you start pregnancy overweight or body conscious. There are days where I can’t stand how I look and there are others where I love it! Thank you, pregnancy hormones. On those off days, I try to focus on the fact that my body is expanding because my baby girl is growing and that’s what you want . . . a growing baby=a healthy baby.
  • Pregnancy is temporary. I don’t plan on being pregnant again. This is my one and done. I’m embracing these 9 months and not obsessing about the weight gain and my disappearing waist line. I will get it back.

  • Take lots of photos! You don’t have to share them but you’ll be happy to have them when you look back at your pregnancy. When you aren’t feeling like yourself this is the last thing you want to do but you’ll be grateful for it later. Plus, you don’t look as bad as the image you’ve created in your head. I can attest to this as someone who has ALWAYS struggled with my weight and body image.
