I watched the premier of “Huge” tonight on ABC Family. Did you check it out? I never went to fat camp as a kid but I could relate to many of the experiences right from the beginning of the show.
Hayley Hasselhoff as Amber
In a nutshell the main character Will (played by Nikki Blonsky from Hairspray) likes to pick on Amber. She picks on her because in her eyes Amber isn’t fat enough for fat camp. Will’s goal for camp is actually to gain weight. She even says, “No I don’t want to change. Why should I?”
Fat is fat. The battle is the same whether we need to lose 10 lbs or 100 lbs.
I battle every single day to not give into certain temptations. That was the same inner struggle in my Medusa days as it is now. Sure, some days are better and I’ve learned a lot and changed some behaviors. The point remaining that we all go through the same struggles.
I saw similarities in the show that I have observed here in the blogosphere. Everyone is screaming about this whole “Fat Acceptance Movement.” (I’m not quite sure where I sit with that just yet. That’s a whole ‘nother blog!) The “really fat” girls pick on the “semi-fat” girls because they’re just not fat enough. Really? It’s bad enough to get teased and taunted by the skinny people but come on!
I want there to be a BODY ACCEPTANCE MOVEMENT. No matter what size or shape you are.
I have always preached equality in fashion and body image. Let’s get rid of derogatory names like Plus Size and the WOMANS section.
One store, one section, all women.
Did you watch the premier? What was your interpretation of the show? I’d love to hear from you!
“When the sun rises, it rises for everyone.”

I did not see the premier because I don’t have cable. I wanted to see it though!! It seems like a great show!

I purchased it through Rainy Day Designs. She has great work!

Aww, Miss Felicity! I’m sure there will be a rerun or you can catch it online. It was good though.
I missed the show! I wanted to see it too. I’m sure it will be on demand or on repeat. I’ll catch it.
I watched it! I thought it was interesting but a little dull, I’ll probably watch another couple episodes to see if it gets more interesting though.
Corie,
Most definitely. I’m sure it will!
Natalie Rose,
I agree. It wasn’t as great as I thought it would be. I am going to keep watching though and see where it goes.
I didn’t know this show premiered already! I’ll have to watch it!
I totally agree, women segregate themselves, when we should all band together, through thick, thin, skinny, fat, obese… whatever we are, we’re all the same.
I found your blog through 20sb, and am super excited about it! I get so happy when I find fellow bloggers talking about weight loss/struggles.
