The #1 question I get on the daily is “How do I love myself?” It’s not an easy black and white answer. It’s a process and you have to be willing to go through the process and face your pain and your own BS.

If you’re looking for an easy answer, you don’t find what you’re looking for here. Learning how to love yourself is not a simple, one and done step you can complete over the weekend.

My advice is not some cheesy blog post about lighting a candle and saying bullshit affirmations in the mirror. The process that I teach works but you have to be ready to commit yourself to the process.

My family and I have been in the process of selling our first home and buying another….and right now we are in the middle of packing/moving hell!  Over the weekend (while sweating and packing boxes), I thought about how the process of packing up your home is just like the process of loving yourself.

You know how when you move, you put boxes away in the closet and promise yourself you’ll open them later and organize everything? Only to move ten years later and those unpacked boxes are still there AND they are buried under all kinds of other boxes!

Learning how to love yourself is a journey and process that you have to be committed to unpacking. The reasons why you don’t love yourself are like boxes. Inside those boxes are pain, trauma, shame, and emotions that you’ve never wanted to unpack.

So, what do you do? You stack boxes on top to forget about it all to distract yourself. Inside of those boxes are emotional eating, dieting, body hate, people pleasing, busyness, denial, drinking,  and all the other distractions that have pulled you away from who you truly are.

If you really want to love yourself and create the life you crave, you have to be willing to open those boxes no matter how painful it might be. It’s bittersweet because on the other side of that pain is the life you crave…and it’s ready and waiting for you to get out of your own damn way.

So, I can’t tell you ‘how‘ to love yourself in one email or one blog post or one podcast. The work is much deeper than that.

This is the work that we do inside of my signature online group coaching program, Irresistible You.

Inside the program, I teach my girls using 5 guiding principles. In the 12 weeks that we work together, I teach them how to:

  • Silence the inner fat bitch chatter and create radical self awareness.
  • Take imperfect action and build confidence before they feel “ready.”
  • Create an unconditional loving relationship with themselves.
  • Practice mindful acceptance to meet themselves where they are.
  • Take care of themselves by practicing intense self-care.

Through the program, they get the foundation that it takes to gain self-love and worthiness. This is work that you have to practice the rest of your life. Its’s just like a relationship. What happens to your marriage if you stop trying? It becomes a sexless, boring, vanilla, disconnected, miserable, unloving marriage. Now, think about what happens when you stop trying to build a loving relationship with yourself. Same thing. It’s a life you don’t love. A life full of painful unpacked boxes that you keep stuffing down trying to forget by stacking up more pain and misery.
