Last week I was off from work for my birthday and did a “staycation” here in Virginia Beach. Believe me when I tell you that you NEED to schedule “YOU” time to regroup and recharge! But I’ll save that for a different post!
Going to the beach and kayaking is where I seem to find my happy place these days. It’s something that I’ll probably never be able to put into words but the minute I get out on the water, all of my worries seem to float away with each paddle. I NEVER thought that this was something I’d enjoy. Kayaking is only for the crunchy granola types . . . or so I thought!
My husband and I started the week off with a kayak trip to one of my favorite places, Lynnhaven Inlet. I’m seriously going to start taking more Mondays off! I LOVE the feeling of a typically crowded place on a week day when everyone else is gone. It is SO relaxing!
Ok, back to the story.
The weather kept calling for scattered rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon. We weren’t sure if we should hit the water because believe me the last place I want to be stuck during a lightning storm is the middle of the water! We hung out on the beach for about an hour while I tanned and my husband did some fishing. I kept alternating between looking at the sky and checking my phone for the latest weather forecast. There was a “chance” of rain but in person the skies looked perfect!
My husband and I finally looked at each other and were like it, “eff it, let’s do this.” We know how summer storms work here at the beach . . . if there’s a slight chance, chances are it never ends up happening anyways.
So, we unloaded the kayaks and set sail! Let me tell you. It was one of the BEST days I’ve had this summer. It was so quiet and tranquil. Oh and the “forecasted bad weather” ended up being just perfect.
After paddling for a little while,we ended up beaching at a sandbar where my husband did some fishing, I did some crabbing + tanning, and we both did some beach drinking.
It was exactly what I needed.
Guess what?
It never rained. It never stormed. It was sunny the entire time. Yea, there were a few more clouds than usual but it didn’t get in the way of our day.
I had an ah-ha moment as I sat with my toes in the water, sipping my strawberry rum punch.
STOP WAITING FOR ALL THE CONDITIONS TO BE PERFECT.
Did you get that? Read it out loud one more time:
STOP WAITING FOR ALL THE CONDITIONS TO BE PERFECT.
You don’t need a perfect forecast in order to start living an irresistible life.
Just Go! Just get started. You have everything that you need to start. If you have to come back because it gets a little stormy, then come back, wait it out, and then try again. If you never start, you’ll never know how great things can be. Don’t listen to the critics or the haters.
If I listened to the weatherman, I would have spent an entirely good summer day inside the house. Um, no thanks. The weatherman isn’t a hater nor does he know who the hell I am . . . but you get my point, right?
Even if things aren’t perfect, you can still get started and still enjoy the process! Just like with my weight loss journey . . . I’m not at my “perfect” goal weight but I’m finally enjoying all that life has to offer. God knows I wasted too many years waiting for the perfect body. I don’t give a shit if my arms aren’t toned. My thighs jiggle and my hips are always going to be wide. I’m still working towards my fitness goals but I’m not going to sit around and hide in the meantime.
You don’t need to wait for things to be perfect in order to start living an irresistible life. Even if something bad “might” happen, take a chance anyways!
