Every new year for as long as I can remember my New Years resolution has always been to lose weight. “THIS is going to be the year that I lose ALL the weight and I’ll finally get to goal and have this amazing happy life! “


With each new weight loss journey I vow that it will be the last time. I get pretty far and then BAM something happens, I lose my momentum. I revert back to bad habits. I get too confident that I don’t need to track and measure. Whatever.

The last time I restarted my weight loss journey it WAS different. I lost 50 lbs and was doing great. I hit a plateau and once 2016 rolled around I was determined that I was going to make that the year I got to goal. It finally seemed so obtainable because I only had about 40 lbs to go. Then in February I found out I was pregnant. So needless to say my journey came to a halt and here I am in 2017 basically starting my weight loss journey all over again.

Only I’m not completely starting from scratch. Yes, I’m starting over with the physical part of this journey . . . but I now know that’s not all that matters. I know how important it is to look at this as a lifestyle change and that it’s a mind, body, and spirit process. To truly change your body, you have to love yourself and find ways to feel good about yourself in the process. In this post, I’m sharing Body Positive Goals that you can incorporate into your plan for the new year.

Make a Lifestyle Change

I could just put “lose weight” for this one but I don’t feel like that’s all encompassing. Losing weight is such a short-term goal. To really create an irresistible life you need to make a lifestyle change. Let me also get something clear right now. There are a lot of body positive bloggers out there that think you shouldn’t lose weight. I disagree. I believe that if you want to lose weight, do it. If you don’t want to lose weight, don’t. You can still be body positive and want to improve your body. I’m not happy with where my body is at right now but I don’t hate myself. I know I feel better when I’m in shape and it just makes me a happier human. Do what’s right for you.

Find Quiet Time

I hate waking up early but I do love this time of day once I’m up and about.  I  love being up when everyone else is still asleep and I can be alone with my thoughts. I have to start my day with this quiet time. Just me, my journal, my candle, and some Zen music. Most people think the key pieces of weight loss and changing your lifestyle are physical. Nope. The mental game is the hardest piece of the puzzle. Take time each morning to reflect on the day ahead, and set your intentions.

Be Nice to Yourself

This is the year you need to tell that negative voice inside of your head to shut up. You know. The one that says things like You fat bitch. Who do you think you are wearing that?” Or “You’re too fat to go anywhere, You need to stay home until you can fit into those jeans!” Enough is enough! You can still be body positive and want to lose weight. The key is to not wait for the weight. You have to enjoy the journey. Just be nice to yourself!

Give a Stranger a Compliment

When’s the last time someone paid you a compliment? How did you feel after that? Chances are you probably felt really good and in turn passed that on to someone else. It’s contagious in the best way possible. The body positivity movement is about more than just loving yourself. It’s about being a better human being to others. As women we need to do a better job uplifting each other. Make a point to say something nice to a stranger.

Wear Something Different

Is there a certain style you’ve always wanted to wear but thought you were too fat, not curvy enough, or that it just wouldn’t flatter your body? Make this the year to try it on. Don’t judge clothes by the way they look on the hanger. Try them on! You never know how great something might look until you try it. Plus, when I’m wearing clothes that I love, I feel better about myself.

Do Something Outside of Your Comfort Zone

The journey to an irresistible life is not just about looks. If you’re on a weight loss journey it’s not just about eating less and moving more. There’s a huge mental component to the journey that often gets overlooked. You have to get to know yourself again . . . or maybe for the first time. One way to do this is by getting outside of your comfort zone. In 2015, I started kayaking for the first time and absolutely fell in love with it. I never thought I would like something like that. At first, it was scary to me. Being out in the open water is vulnerable. I was also scared that I was “too fat” to try it. OMG what if there’s a weight limit and I’m too “fat?”  Once I really started down my irresistible journey, I decided it was time to start living life and trying new things. Do it! Get outside of your comfort zone. Sign up for a Zumba class, a cooking class, go kayaking, go hiking. Just try something new!

Create a New Beauty Routine

I’ve talked before about why I wear makeup. I don’t do it for other people. I do it because it makes me feel good. When I look good, I feel good and in turn it makes my day more productive. Experiment with a new beauty routine or new makeup look. I love playing with makeup!
