I always used to catch myself saying, “one day.”
- One day, I’ll finally have the job I really want.
- One day, I’ll finally have a “perfect body” and will be at my goal weight.
- One day, I’ll fit into that sexy black dress I’ve always wanted.
- One day, I’ll be able to afford the vacation I’ve always wanted to take.
Basically, take the phrase “one day” and insert any of your dreams and desires.
I finally decided I was sick and tired of hearing myself complain and sound like a broken record. It was time to stop wishing for “one day” and start creating my one day. I took the plunge in 2010 when I quit my job of seven years.
There has to come a day that you are ready to make a change. This doesn’t mean you go from 0 to 100 overnight. It means you start making small changes every day. Those little changes are going to add up to big changes.
“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” ~Anaïs Nin~
These are five reasons that held me back from creating an irresistible life and I bet they might be holding you back too.
1. You Don’t Have a Clear Goal
I knew that I was starting to feel miserable at my old job. I was all too familiar with that feeling of anger and resentment every time the alarm clock went off. I was pissed off that I had to leave my little puppy home alone all day. I knew I was craving something different but I had no clear goal on WHAT that different “thing” would be. Once I finally got really quiet and did a little soul searching, I was able to set some goals for myself and then I started working towards them. Setting a goal isn’t the end all be all solution. You need to do the work in between to make it happen!
2. You’re Terrified of Change
Even when you’re miserable, it can feel comfortable because it’s what you’ve become used to. In my last serious relationship, I knew for over a year that I was done. But, it was hard to finally call a spade a spade and move on. When you’ve done something for years (work, relationship, binge eat, etc), it becomes familiar. All change is scary and stressful . . . even when it’s positive.
3. You’re Worried What Other People Will Think
Ahh the best excuse of all. Worrying about what other people will think of YOUR life decisions. Let me just say that only you get to live YOUR life. Who cares what other people will think. I know, easier said than done. I know when I quit my job to launch my online business, I worried that people would laugh at me if I failed. Did I let that stop me? NO!
4. You Don’t Think You Deserve It
Deep down you know what you want. Sometimes it’s hard to verbalize that because we have been conditioned to believe we aren’t worthy or deserving of our “dream” life. Well, I’m here to give you permission to believe that you ARE deserving of an irresistible life. It all comes back to confidence. Have the confidence and belief in yourself to go after your dreams!
5. You’re Waiting for the Perfect Moment
How many times have you told yourself something like this:
- “Once I get that new job, I’ll finally be happy.”
- “Once I lose 30 lbs, I’ll finally be happy.”
- “Once I meet my future husband, I’ll finally be happy.”
What is stopping you from being happy right now? It’s because you’re waiting for that elusive perfect moment when everything in your life is going to fall into place?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Perfect doesn’t exist. As cheesy as it sounds, start practicing gratitude for what you have right now in this moment while simultaneously striving for the goals you want.
