In this week’s Weight Watchers meeting, we talked about anchoring. (Oh, and I’m down another 1.8 lbs in case you don’t follow me on Twitter! Woo Hoo!)
What is Anchoring?
According to Weight Watchers, Anchoring, a process for creating cues and triggers to remind yourself of your weight goal and the inner resources you have to achieve it.
This really got me thinking. In fact, it’s something I’ve been pondering for awhile now. Anchoring is really just the same as finding your inner motivation.
What is Your Inner Anchor?
The last time I lost all this weight, my wedding was my anchor but that was temporary. The minute stress came back into my life, so did the weight. I’ve realized I have to find a more permanent anchor.
You would think just the thought of going back to that “place” of feeling miserable and not fitting into my clothes would be an anchor. I thought so too. Apparently, it’s not strong enough. When it came to the stress and then the depression, my anchor couldn’t keep it away. The food was stronger and I started drifting away.
Why? I really can’t answer that right now. I’m hoping the therapy I’m doing right now will help answer that and give me the coping skills to do other things when the next big stressor comes along. Because, ultimately, we can’t avoid stress.
I’m working on finding my inner anchors. Not just the superficial ones. In the meantime, my anchor is that I know I have the strength to do this because I’ve done it before. I have the proof. That keeps me going. Sometimes it’s hard having to see the same numbers go by on the scale, again. BUT, if you done it once, you can do it again!
That’s why this is a journey and not a destination. What’s anchoring you?
